TAKE ACTION: STAND AGAINST RACISM

At YWCA, we are doing the work of justice everyday - through our advocacy, our leadership, and our work in communities. Our collective advocacy is only made powerful when you add your voice to the chorus and call on Congress and the Administration to take action on the three key issues: voting rights, declaring racism a public health crisis, and equitable access to abortion.

VOTING RIGHTS

Each year, Americans head to the polls to cast their vote and make their voices heard. Yet, for far too long, voters \u2013 especially voters of color \u2013 have encountered significant barriers to participating in elections. And things are only getting worse. We must ensure all individuals have equal access to the ballot box. The Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act would take critical steps to strengthen voting rights, protect against active voter suppression efforts, and modernize our voting systems to ensure national standards that protect all Americans\u2019 right to vote.

RACISM IS A PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS

By any definition, racism is a public health crisis: an emergency, disaster, or catastrophic event that significantly impacts the health, physical safety, and economic survival of people and communities. Deeply entrenched institutional racism has long had deadly impacts \u2013 from police violence to alarming health disparities, access to housing to a quality education. Take a stand against racism and join us by urging Congress to pass a resolution declaring racism a public health crisis.

ACCESS TO ABORTION

The right to access safe and legal abortion care stands squarely at the center of YWCA\u2019s mission to eliminate racism and empower women. Informed by our extensive history and with our mission in mind, YWCA is proud to stand with all people \u2013 women, transgender, non-binary, and other non-gender conforming individuals, especially those of color - to protect protect an individual\u2019s freedom to make personal decisions about reproductive health care and defend access to reproductive freedom.

The Women\u2019s Health Protection Act (S. 1975) is critical legislation aimed at protecting this fundamental, Constitutionally guaranteed care. Abortion access is fundamental. Join us and tell Congress to take immediate action and protect reproductive rights!

I am taking a stand against racism with YWCA and hundreds of thousands of people across the country, join us this week during YWCA\u2019s annual Stand Against Racism \u2014 and every day.
\ufeffSTAND AGAINST RACISM PLEDGE
Mindful of the continuing affliction of institutional and structural racism as well as the daily realities of all forms of bias, prejudice and bigotry in my own life, my family, my circle of friends, my co-workers and the society in which I live, with conviction and hope:
I take this pledge, fully aware that the struggle to eliminate racism will not end with a mere pledge but calls for an ongoing transformation within myself and the institutions and structures of our society.
I pledge to look deeply and continuously in my heart and in my mind to identify all signs and vestiges of racism; to rebuke the use of racist language and behavior towards others; to root out such racism in my daily life and in my encounters with persons I know and with strangers I do not know; and to expand my consciousness to be more aware and sensitive to my use of overt and subtle expressions of racism and racial stereotypes;
I pledge to educate myself on racial justice issues and share what I learn in my own communities even if it means challenging my family, my partner, my children, my friends, my co-workers and those I encounter on a daily basis
I pledge, within my means, to actively work to support public policy solutions that prominently, openly and enthusiastically promote racial equity in all aspects of human affairs; and to actively support and devote my time to YWCA, as well as other organizations working to eradicate racism from our society.

Voting rights, census participation, and civic engagement are, and have always been, essential to racial justice. As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts all aspects of life, it is also exacerbating the impact of systemic and structural racism on communities of color across health, education, justice, and economic sectors.
